Since I haven't been the best blogger of late, I'm taking a little hint from Birds and Trees and posting something that could conceivably take you longer to read than it does for me to post again. That way, everyone wins!
1. Story Hour was canceled again today. I'm just glad it wasn't because of snow this time. I suppose fog is dangerous too...
2. I was born and raised in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. And I don't care what people say, I like my little state.
3. March has been a particularly busy month for me, hence the lack of posting. That, and I just don't feel like I have anything to say, lately.
4. I'm very excited and more than a bit nervous about going to PLA next week. It will be my first big conference for my job and I really want to make a good impression.
5. Speaking of which, I'm going to be blogging the conference on the PLA blog from March 26-29, so if you really miss me or want to know how librarians party, you can find me over there.
6. The ice finally broke up on the river and the dam churned up a
really spectacular display of foam. It was crazy! The foam floated
down the river like little cloud-like barges. We watched it all
morning.
7. I have really strong opinions about things, but
sometimes have difficulty explaining them to people out loud. For
instance, I really hate Walmart, because they don't treat their
employees well and they come into small towns and destroy the local
business owners and they don't carry the morning after pill and a bunch
of stuff, but I had the hardest time vocalizing that the other day.
8.
I think it's because as I get older, I get stupider. I have the
hardest time even pulling up the easiest words sometimes. I stood and
looked at my husband for what felt like an hour last night trying to
think of the word "shoes." "Dear, could you go to my office and get
my... things. Blue. Feet."
9. Which feeds itself far too
easily into every child's favorite thought: "Grown ups are too old to
know anything." I think it's because our brains have forsaken us.
10.
I hate feeling like a grownup. We went to get our taxes done and my
tax guy is super cool and has toys in his office and stuff and I
reached over and grabbed a box of Magz,
simultaneously exclaiming in glee, "Sweet! He's got Magz!" And Brian
looked at me, shook his head, and replied, "Sarah. It's grown up time
now."
11. I have a hard time balancing what I want to do with what I need
to do. For instance, I borrowed Lego Star Wars II from my sister and I
really really want to go play it, but I should probably finish this
blog post and then do some sewing and such instead. But it's got
Chewbacca and he rips the arms of the bad Lego guys and it's so
funny...
12. I also have a hard time saying "no." If people want
me to make them something, I want to accommodate. So on occasion, I
take too much on. I'm there right now.
13. I'm one of those weird people who really loved high school and miss it now that it's gone.
14.
I also love school supplies. I like to stand in the school supply
aisle at the store and try and come up with some reason why I need this
or that. Because nothing is as awesome as a new box of crayons!
15.
I think that's one of the things I like most about my job -- I get to
color and read children's books and do all kinds of fun kid things and
no one looks at me askance.
16. We went to my favorite Antique store in Marion on our way home
this weekend and I actually remembered to bring my camera! I wanted
this Alice planter the last time I was there, but I just don't have $75
in the planter budget.
17. My first car was a 1991 Buick Skylark.
His name was Benson and I drove him until he dern near collapsed. Then
my husband drove him until he did. I loved that car.
18. I really miss Benson sometimes, too, even though he wasn't the greatest car.
19.
We name all our cars. My Volvo is the Nada Mobile and our Jag was Jet
and Brian's Rover is The Veloci-craptor. I think he wants to call his
Volvo Slushious, because that's the name of the car in The True Meaning of Smekday and we're reading that right now and it's crazy good.
20.
I just looked at the lunch special calendar for our little town bakery
and I discovered that today is Shepard's Pie day. That's pretty much
my favorite day all month. I know what I'm doing for lunch!
21. These
pine cones were so big, I couldn't even concentrate on the pretty
textiles that were right next to them.
22. The flag in the park looks like it's at half mast. I wonder why?
23. This is a lot harder than I thought it would be when I was reading the one on Birds and Trees.
24.
I just don't think I'm that interesting. When we got our taxes done,
Jack kept asking us all these questions and Brian and I would just say
"no" over and over. It made us seem like we had the most boring year
ever.
25. And I'm pretty sure we did, but you know what? I think I might be ok with that.
26. I wanted this plate the last time we went too. It's just so awesome, but I have a hard time paying $25 for a plate, even if it's crazy wonderful.
27. Sometimes, I wish life was more like a cartoon, or like this plate. Talking animals in clothes would be pretty sweet.
28. I want a tail too. A nice big floofy fox tail.
29. And then, if animals could talk, Cleo could give me a dissertation on her discontent.
30. I'm sure it would be long.
31. I went to college first at Kirkwood Community College and then at the University of Northern Iowa. I focused on Theatre and Art. My major was in photography, but I took more acting and painting classes than anything else. I miss painting.
32. The other day, I had a bit of an existential crisis when I realized a boy that I'd had a fling with in college was a rather well known artist in San Francisco. It made me question what I was doing and where I was with my life. But I think I was more disappointed in Karma that anything else.
33. It bothers me that I'm still judging my own life in comparison to the lives of others. I feel like I'm a little old to be worried about it anymore.
34. I wonder if people from my past think of me, the way I sometimes think of them. I wish I didn't feel so fleeting.
35. My husband says I'm the only person he knows who likes to look at their old pictures and yearbooks and such as much as I do. I wonder if it's just nostalgia, or if I'm really trying to find something there.
36. I think the sun is trying to come out. That makes me happy. I'm so very solar powered.
37. Which is funny, because I really hate being hot.
38. Or cold. I just want to be at an optimal temperature for operation.
39. I promise I'm not a robot, or some kind of cyborg. Or even a Terminator.
40. I'm just sensitive. Or whiny. Brian votes for whiny.
41. I really really really appreciate each and every one of you. Without you, I'd be all alone. Thank you!
42. Originally, I stopped at 40, because I just couldn't think of anything else. But then, I remembered that 42 is the ultimate answer, so I felt the need to persevere. You're welcome.

I was just explaining to my husband about the awesomeness of a brand new box of crayons. The smell, the pointy tips, the possibilities. It's truly a happy-making thing.

foxy - thank you, no, really, thank YOU...you make me happy. And I really want to buy you that planter, and that plate and that big fox tail you dream of. I really wish I could...if my not cool tax guy hadn't just robbed us of all of our money :(

It's so nice to know that I am not the only one that names the cars! I just named my husband's old truck the Green Bean the other day!

I can so relate to so many of the things you listed! But mostly I am glad to know that I am not the only one that wonders if past friends/people I knew think about me as I think about them.
And also? We name our cars, too.
