Surprised? Nah.

Hey, good times!
I'm not a republican (I'm not a democrat either) but after watching the RNC for about an hour last night the one thing I took away from it was the overly obvious sea of white and money, and the echo of these rich white folks talking about being able to "relate" to where average Americans are coming from. Funny stuff.
And did you happen to notice the get-up Cindy McCain was wearing on Tuesday night? They estimated that one outfit to be worth more than $300,000. Oh yes, as an average Joe I can totally relate to a $300,000 outfit.

I tried to watch some, but ended up reeling with nausea. We have an Obama sign in our yard and are praying like crazy!

Well. I've been a fairly regular reader here. I love kids' books and I like the little crafty things pictured. But I am so sick of politics. And we have 2 more months left of it all. And I browsed in, and crap. It's here, too.
Cindy McCain's "outfit" - her dress and shoes - totalled about $3600. That is still exorbitant by any means. (What I could do with $3600!) But her ouftit was still half the price of any awards show outfit of Oprah. She has never been bashed about that - she's made the covers of fashion mags and praised.
Cindy McCain is a millionaire. She has given much of it to charity. So if she comes on stage wearing an Oscar de la Renta dress, SO WHAT. She doesn't wear it to visit orphanages and hospitals in third world countries. (Have yet to see Michelle Obama doing ANY charity work.)
And I hardly think adding the value of jewelry to an "outfit" is fair. It could be family jewelry, something she already owned, a gift, or on loan.
I watched the RNC and wished I could have been there. I will be putting a McCain/Palin sign in my front yard, and praying, too.
And sadly, this was likely my last visit to small foxes. I really prefer to keep my crafting and politics separate.

So long, Tammy W.
And thanks for that article that encapsulated things that I have read all over in bits and pieces.
I am so tired of all this "I can relate to her" baloney. We need to be governed by the best and the brightest, not someone to make us feel better about ourselves by comparison.

Tammy, while I am unsure of where all this discussion of fashion is coming from, as I have said nothing about it, I guess I can't say I'm too sorry to see you go. That may sound harsh, but I can do without people who make judgments based on 9 little words. People are multi-faceted and if you can't take the bad along with the good, you don't deserve the good.
I hope that you are happy in your choice-less world, where men get paid more money than you for the same work, wolves are shot from helicopters, polar bears go extinct, and bridges are made to your asshole. You did it to your self. Don't say we didn't tell you so.
And consequently, Oprah doesn't get chastised about her clothing, because she isn't running for a public office on a fiscally conservative platform. Also, she doesn't believe the middle class is anyone making five million dollars or less. Where does that leave the rest of us?
At least card board boxes are in this year. Let us know where you set up yours. We'll visit you.

You GO Sarah. Woot! Woot!

The politics part is tough...
I visited a blog that posted a horribly one-sided (and even poorly executed at that) video. I posted a comment about it and got blasted, too!
I have to say, I honestly wasn't rude and didn't slam the author of the blog for voicing their opinion...I was just shocked that she didn't allow her readers (when it WAS done in a effective way) to say what they thought.
That being said, Tammy was NOT being tactful in her argument (it was clear she did NOT read the article) and deserved every ounce of whoop-ass that you opened on her! Well done!
You renewed my faith in the midwest, Sarah! I was beginning to think that we were doomed...it's nice to know that there ARE people that DON'T follow the stereotype! ;)

I know I should shut up now but I got some nasty two faced comments on my blog before so here you go I say it:
the RNC was very frightening, anybody that rejoices for their first born to go to war must be deranged.
BTW I live in Utah, and get a good laugth reading Dooce
